Puff Pastry KANZI® Apple Doughnuts

Adding Kanzi apples – it’s the secret to elevating pastries and pies from good to amazing! The delicious balance of sweet and tangy flavours in Kanzi apples make them ideal for baking. Sweet, complex and moreish – not too sugary, just like in these Puff Pastry KANZI® Apple “Doughnuts”.

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.
  2. On a clean chopping board, slice the Kanzi apples horizontally through the core into slices approximately 0.5cm thick, yielding about 10-15 slices.
  3. Use a small cookie cutter to remove the cores from the Kanzi apple slices, forming a doughnut ring shape.
  4. Combine the white sugar and ground cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  5. Dip each Kanzi apple ring into the cinnamon-sugar mixture, ensuring they’re evenly coated.
  6. Cut the puff pastry into strips roughly 2cm wide using a knife.
  7. Wrap each Kanzi apple ring with the puff pastry strips. You’ll need about 3 strips per Kanzi apple ring for complete coverage, or 2 strips to leave some
    gaps. Place each ring onto a lined baking tray.
  8. Lightly beat the egg with the water, then brush it over the puff pastry. Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon-sugar on top.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry turns a golden-brown colour.
  10. Serve immediately, dusted with icing sugar.

Tip: The delicious sweet and tangy flavour of Kanzi apples make them perfect for sweet treats and baking, as unlike other tart varieties of apples, there’s less need for added sugar.
