In 1857 Frederick Porritt, a passionate fruiterer, occupied 231 Bridge from a shop and a tent. We suspect he grew fruit and vegetables and sold them from our current location. After Mr. Frederick's store closed down the site was then used by the National Bank of Australasia, the façade protected by Heritage Victoria. Prior to the current re-development, which includes the Abacus residential apartments, the site was a clothing store. In 2014 it was back to the future and the site was returned to a fine grocer, supporting Australian only products in an environmentally friendly store. We thought the best way to honour Mr. Frederick's legacy was to name our store after him.
Fredericks is a premium grocer stocking unique brands sourced from the finest Australian and Independent producers. We carry products ranging from fresh fruit and vegetables, organic Tea, manuka honey, gluten free products, and reusable and recycled items. As well as brands exclusively available online through us, such as Hells Breath Hot Sauces, and Go Just Nuts products.
