In 1954 Pasquale DeMaria disembarked his ship in Melbourne after a six-week voyage from his home in Piminoro, Calabria. After settling in Mildura for a time he moved his new family to Melbourne and established a thriving banana wholesale business with his brother Giovanni, in the Melbourne Market. Fast forward 60 years and the DeMaria’s are still living and breathing fresh produce. John has worked with his father Joe to establish 2 successful fruit shops in Melbourne’s west before setting out on his first independent venture in Richmond.
DeMaria’s Grocer was born out of a desire to create more than just a retail space, we want our customers to depend on us for all their gastronomical needs, from offering the best seasonal produce, pre-prepared meals and salads, a delicatessen stocked for every occasion and a handpicked selection of groceries, to the most invaluable knowledge and advice from our team of experts. John, his wife Phoebe and their children Joe and Eve, are excited to be Richmond’s newest grocer and look forward to serving and celebrating the local community.
