It took the right partnership to make Homestead Markets in Park Ridge a success – before Rudy and Alfie took over, the shop had been through two owners in less than seven years. Now, 13 years later, it’s a huge success – and a beacon for shoppers looking for local produce grown within the area. Both Rudy and Alfie came from farming families and developed a love for fresh produce from an early age. Rudy has worked in the area for the last 40 years. They stay in the industry for one simple reason – “it has always been their life.” Rudy and Alfie both had their first exposure to the Brisbane Produce Markets at an early age. Rudy first visited the markets as a boy with his father, delivering apples from their Stanthorpe family farm. Alfie first visited as a four-year-old boy in 1981, helping his father, who owned three produce stores. Unsurprisingly, the duo now strongly support local farming families by providing fresh produce from local farmers, sourced daily. Their extensive knowledge of their products helps to ensure customers are eating seasonal produce at the most affordable prices and help Homestead Markets compete (and win) against the big supermarket chains. The store likes to give back by supporting Little Athletics at nearby Browns Plains – and to give back every day, by selling locally-grown produce from Australian family farmers.
