Farmers really are the backbone of the fruit and veg industry. Their produce is the freshest and definitely the tastiest, so it’s important that we support them as much as possible. Wondering what you can do to help the best you can? We’ve come up with some tips!
1. Ditch the major supermarkets
If you have a local independent greengrocer near you, this is probably the easiest way to support your local farmers. The produce is always a lot fresher, and often cheaper! It’s also a great way to get out of the house for a little while!
2. Donate
We understand that everyone leads busy lives and we don’t always have the time to head out to your local grocer. An easy way to help is to donate a little bit of money to local organizations that support farmers. They’ll definitely thank you for it.
3. Educate yourself
One of the best, easiest and cheapest ways to help your local farmers is to just educate yourself. That way you’ll learn where your food is coming from, all of the local organizations surrounding you and exactly how you can help!
4. Spread the word
Once you have educated yourself a little, you can help spread the word on how your friends and family can also help support their local farmers. At least planting the seed of why people should help will do a lot in supporting your farmers.
These tips are all easy, cheap and effective. You don’t have to do a lot to show your support and help farmers to continue providing our favourite fresh produce year round!
