Guava is famed for its strong and sweet fragrance. The fruit is round or oval in shape and has light green or light yellow skin. Its center is filled with tiny, hard seeds. Besides being a flavourful ingredient for jams and jellies, the guava is acclaimed as a super fruit due to its numerous health benefits.

Health Benefits

Guava is rich in vitamin C to improve immunity, and lycopene and antioxidants that are beneficial for the skin. The manganese found in guava also helps the body absorb key nutrients from the food that we eat. 100g of guava contains:

  • Vitamin C – 381% of DV
  • Vitamin A – 12% of DV
  • Calcium – 2% of DV
  • Folate – 20% of DV
  • Iron – 2% of DV

Selecting tips

  • Choose heavier guava
  • The rind should be blemish-free and yield to slight pressure
  • For pink-fleshed guava, the more yellow the rind is, the riper the fruit. The outside colour does not indicate ripeness with green-apple varieties
