Famous for its prickly green skin and distinctive smell, jackfruit is the largest tree grown fruit in the world!  The inside of the fruit is made up smaller pods which are yellow and firm in texture. The fruit is naturally sweet in flavour and natural high in vitamin C, B and B-6.  Jackfruit is extremely versatile and great for cooking! Ripe fruit can used as a desert added to ice cream or turned into a delicious crumble. Alternatively, green jackfruit can be used in salads, stir fries and noodles.

Selecting tips

  • You can tell if the fruit is ripe by gently tapping it with your knuckle, if its ready to eat you will hear a dull hollow sound much like watermelon
  • Ripe fruit will produce a distinctive sweet odour.
  • The flesh of the fruit should be yellow and thick.
  • You can freeze the fruit or eat it fresh, storing in the fridge
