Turmeric comes from the turmeric plant and is commonly used in Asian cuisines, especially as a main spice in curry. Its taste is warm and bitter, and it is also used to colour or flavour curries, mustards, butters and cheeses. The root of turmeric is also widely used to make medicine. Turmeric is available and in season all year round.

Health Benefits

Turmeric helps with heartburn, stomach pain and arthritis. Turmeric can also be applied to the skin for pain and swelling. 100g of turmeric yields the following:

  • Vitamin C – 43% of DV

  • Iron – 230% of DV
  • Vitamin B6 – 90% of DV
