A Better Choice For Freshness

As we hit the midway point of Spring, we’re celebrating the very best of seasonal produce at your local fruit and veg shop! The first meal of the day is the most important, and there are so many ways to make the most of your breakfast with fruit and vegetables to please your sweet or savoury tooth! Whether you’re into smoothies or fry-ups, your local fruit and veg shop has everything you need to make a healthy start to the day.

Our pick of the week this week is Globe Artichokes. Not to be overlooked, Globe Artichokes are a delicious option for your Springtime meals. Compared in flavour to Asparagus or Brussels sprouts with a nutty flavour, Globe Artichokes make for a delicious entree or side dish for your next dinner party.

The quality and taste of Blueberries at the moment are wonderful. Perfectly sweet and bursting with flavour, blueberries make a tasty addition to your morning cereal or smoothie, or are great eaten alone for a snack full of healthy antioxidants! If baking’s more your jam, you can’t go past these Blueberry Muffins!

Stone fruit season is making a start, with White and Yellow Peaches coming out of Queensland, as well as juicy Nectarines! Stone fruit are a wonderful sign of the warmer season to come! While prices may be high, the quality is great and as the season progresses we will see prices come down on these produce lines.

Mangoes continue to hit the shelves of your local fruit and veg shop. Kensington Pride mangoes are a delicious option, due to their sweet flavour and aroma. While they may have green skin, they can still be ripe. Look for heavy fruit with a strong aroma that is slightly soft when pressure is applied. When storing mangoes, keep them out on your countertop at room temperature.

Melons are great value this week, and there are plenty of options on offer including Watermelon, Honeydew and Rockmelon. Melons are a great snack to pack in the lunchbox or to serve at your weekend picnics or lunches. Feeling a little fancy? Make this Rockmelon Frosé at your next dinner party!

With Halloween coming up very soon, there are some large Halloween Pumpkins available at your local fruit and veg shop! These are a fun way to decorate your home for the spooky season, and carving pumpkins is a fun activity to do with the kids! Choose your favourite-looking pumpkin and carve out the spookiest face this Halloween!

Fresh Sweet Corn is a springtime favourite, with a delicious flavour that complements your evening meals! You can slice the kernels off and add into a salad for a sweet burst of flavour, or cook on the BBQ with the husk on and enjoy! This Grilled Corn & Zucchini Salad is a delight that the family will love!

Asparagus is of excellent quality this week. For those that pleasure in finding specialty produce at your local fruit and veg shop, you may find White Asparagus on the shelves! Grown in Tasmania, this specialty produce is a European delicacy, grown entirely underground. Alternatively, Green Asparagus is a delicious option to add the flavour of Spring to your weekly meals! Have some Asparagus for breakfast this week and whip up our Stovetop Asparagus Frittata
