Kiwis are actually large berries that pack a lot of flavour and plenty of health benefits. Their green flesh is sweet and tangy, and their black seeds are edible and crunchy. While the skin is usually peeled away because of its fuzzy texture, it can actually be eaten.

Kiwifruit’s flavour offers plenty of antioxidants and fibre to aid digestion and boost the immune system. Kiwis are very dense in nutrition, while still having a very low calorie count. 100g of kiwi contains the following:

  • Vitamin A – 1% of DV
  • Calcium – 3% of DV
  • Vitamin C – 154% of DV
  • Iron – 1% of DV
  • Vitamin B-6 – 5% of DV
  • Magnesium – 4% of DV

Selecting tips

  • Choose plump, fragrant kiwis that feel soft but remain firm when slightly squeezed.
  • The size of a kiwi does not affect the flavour and taste.

Storage tips

  • Kiwifruit are ready to eat once they yield to gentle pressure.
  • To hasten ripening, place in a paper bag with an apple or banana or store in the refrigerator for two-three weeks.
