Navel oranges get their name from its navel-like feature at the base of the fruit. The fruit is an easy snack because it is seedless, and its skin is very easy to peel. When ripened, the flesh of the fruit produces juicy, sweet flavours that is delicious on its own.

A ripened orange consists of a high vitamin C, fibre and potassium content, while remaining very low in calories. Regular consumption of navel oranges has also been linked to potentially protecting against heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. 100g of navel orange contains the following:

  • Calcium – 7% of DV
  • Vitamin C – 163% of DV
  • Vitamin E – 1% of DV
  • Iron – 1% of DV
  • Vitamin B-6 – 7% of DV
  • Magnesium – 5% of DV

  • Select a firm, smooth, thin-skinned navel orange that is heavy in size
  • The heavier the orange feels, the riper the fruit
  • The navel part of the orange should smell fresh, like a fragrant orange peel
