A Better Choice For Freshness

The middle of winter can be a dreary time for many, but it’s an exciting time at your local Fruit and Veg shop! New season fruit and vegetables continue to line the shelves, providing some lovely winter colour to your week! It’s important to stay healthy throughout the colder months, and there are so many produce lines available to help you get your daily nutrient intake. 

Our pick of the week is Blood Oranges which have finally made their way back to shelves this winter! Blood Oranges have striking blood-red flesh, which is slightly sweeter than other Orange varieties, with a hint of berry flavours. Blood Oranges are perfect as a snack, or can be made into delicious desserts or added to your Winter salads for a sweet citrus flavour. Pick some up at your local Fruit and Veg shop this week! 

Papaya (Paw Paw) is good value this week, and is widely available. Papaya is full of antioxidants to assist with the health of your skin and immune system. Pineapple is also a great pick this week as an excellent snack option, or for your weekend BBQ! After a sweeter option? Try our Pan-Fried Pineapple for a fruity dessert the family will love. 

Rockmelon is great value this week, and is a delicious option to add to your breakfast for a quick boost. We love these Quinoa & Rockmelon Bowls for an easy breakfast that is quick and healthy! When selecting Rockmelon, look for fragrant melons with a sweet scent. 

Strawberries are coming into their winter season, with deliciously sweet fruit available at your local Fruit and Veg shop.

Apples are plentiful now, and with so many varieties available, you’ll find one for each member of the family! In the mood for baking this weekend? Make an Apple Strudel with your Apples this week. 

Celebrate healthy Asian greens this week, and pick up some Bok Choy or Chinese Broccoli for an easy stir-fry packed with nutrients! Add in some Kale to your grocery shop this week too, for a green veg-fuelled week to keep your body healthy in this colder weather. 

Sweet Potato is a good buy this week. Sweet Potato is a great winter veg option containing vitamin A to promote eye and immune system health. Warm up your winter nights and whip up a Sweet Potato, Kale and Peanut Soup!

Globe Artichoke is in season, and is a great winter veg to add to your weekly rotation! Globe Artichoke can be steamed or roasted and topped with your favourite seasoning. It’s also an excellent addition to your family’s favourite dishes. Create a Spinach and Artichoke Lasagne for the family this weekend!

Have you had some of this season’s Chestnuts? Pick some up at your local Fruit and Veg shop this week and roast them in the oven, stove-top or an open fire for the perfect Winter treat! These are a great option if you’ll be celebrating Christmas in July this month!
